Caribbean Hold’em Rules

With a reasonable house edge lying between 2.15% and 3% based on optimal gameplay, Caribbean Hold’em offers a more alluring house edge than other player favorites, such as roulette and slots.

Another perk of the Caribbean Hold’em variants is its $1 progressive jackpot side bet that has the potential to pay out big wins as the jackpot just keeps on growing with every bet until a player strikes it lucky.

Texas Hold’em Vs. Caribbean Hold’em

The main difference between Texas Hold’em and Caribbean Hold’em is simply that the latter cuts out an extra step associated with Texas Hold’em. Which steps? I hear you ask.

Well, if you’re familiar with Texas Hold’em, you’ll know that the community cards are dealt in three stages; Caribbean Hold’em, on the other hand, has opted to remove one of the stages, leaving you with two stages and thus cutting down the time it takes for you to get a result.

Note that Caribbean Hold’em is also different from Caribbean Stud Poker. Check out our page on this variant if you want to learn more about the game.

How To Play Real Money Caribbean Holdem Online

The basic rules of Caribbean Holdem online are easy to understand and simple to follow. Once you’ve got a handle on the rules, you’ll be able to successfully place wagers, aware of the do’s and don’ts.

  1. Place The Ante Bet And Consider A Progressive Bet

For the action to start, you’ll first need to place an Ante Bet. If you’d like to make a progressive side bet, now’s the time to do so. You won’t know what your two cards are yet, so this is a blind bet.

  2. Cards Are Dealt

Once you hit the deal button, both you and the dealer will receive two cards. These cards will be dealt face down (hole cards). After that, the dealer will deal three community cards (the Flop).

  3. Call Or Fold

Now you’ll need to decide if you’re going to proceed with play by making a Call Bet or not (if you proceed, the Call Bet will be double that of the initial Ante Bet). If you decide to bust, you lose your Ante Bet.

  4. Two Community Cards Are Dealt

If you placed a Call Bet, the dealer will deal another two community cards – there will now be five community cards on the table.

  5. Best Hand Of Five Cards

With your hole cards revealed, you now need to make the best five-card hand possible with the combination of the seven cards. The dealer will do the same.

  6. Dealer Qualifies

The dealer must have a hand with at least one pair of fours or better to qualify. If the dealer fails to qualify, then you win the Ante Bet at odds of 1:1. Your Call Bet will then be returned (Push).

  7. Win or Lose

If the dealer qualifies and has a better hand, you lose both your Ante Bet and your Call Bet. If you have a stronger hand, you’ll win your Ante Bet (see Payouts Table below). Your Call Bet will return a winning of 1:1.

Caribbean Hold’em Payouts

The payout structure in Caribbean Hold’em is simple enough. When you win your hand, you are awarded a win on both your Ante bet and your Call bet. Each of these has a different way of paying out.

Ante Bet Table Payouts Tab

The Ante bet payouts vary and are linked to the strength of your winning hand. Straight or less hands pay out at 1:1, but from there, it’s a different story. The Call bet, however, pays out 1:1 on all winning hands.

Hand Odds
Royal Flush 100:1
Straight Flush 20:1
Four of a Kind 10:1
Full House 3:1
Flush 2:1
All other 1:1

Progressive Side Bet Payouts

The progressive jackpot side bet win is based on the five-card result of your hole cards combined with the first three community cards (the Flop).

Hand Odds
Royal Flush 100% of the Jackpot
Straight Flush 10% of the Jackpot
Four of a Kind $500
Full House $100
Flush $75

Caribbean Hold’em Strategies

When playing real money Caribbean Hold’em, you’ll undoubtedly be looking to tip the odds in your favor. The easiest way to do that is to follow a basic strategy that helps you overcome unnecessary mistakes when deciding to bet on a particular hand. Not only that but when you follow a strategy and playing optimally, you’ll keep the house edge low.

With Caribbean Holdem it’s rarely a good idea to fold. Statistically, a player should call on 82% of the hands they receive. Now, this may seem strange, but we’ll explain why you should only fold on 18% of the time.

Basic Strategy: When to Fold and When to Raise

When to Fold:

  • Always fold when the Flop includes a pair, and you have no cards that match the three community cards, or you have no cards higher than 10. The exception to this is when you have a four-card flush draw or a four-card flush draw.
  • Always fold when your two cards are unpaired low cards that don’t match the Flop to create a Flush draw or a Straight draw.

When to Raise or Call:

  • Always call when you are holding a pair of cards or better
  • Always call when you have an Ace High or King High
  • Always call when you have a Queen High or Jack High. The exception is when the Flop contains same-suit cards, and you don’t have any cards from that suit.
  • Always call when you have a four-card flush draw or a four-card straight draw
  • Always call when holding two high value cards that are higher in value than the cards in the Flop.

It’s tricky to pin down an exact strategy with Caribbean Hold’em as there are just too many possible hand variations available that you and the dealer could have. A little bit of discipline always goes a long way. If you keep the basics in mind, you’re sure to see results.
