One of the biggest casino operators in Australia, The Star Entertainment Group, has recently partnered up with Ritz-Carlton – a luxury chain of hotels which exist all over the world. Their idea is to build a hotel and apartment complex worth approximately A$500 million next to a casino that already exists in Sydney. This way, they believe, they will upgrade the casino visits and the overall experience that the visitors of the casino have.
The building of this hotel is the part of a bigger project which aims to renovate and expand The Star Sydney casino. As a matter of fact, due to certain laws in Australia, The Star Sydney is the only casino to have the right to operate in this city which makes it the only one that exists in Sydney. However, the things are about to change, and the monopoly that The Star Sydney has had will end very soon.
More Competition on the Way
Reportedly, one of the competitors that will open another casino in Sydney will be Crown Resorts which are currently building a A$2 billion worth integrated resort which will be in Barangaroo and which will have a casino floor for the visitors who like this type of entertainment. The grand opening of the property is expected sometime during 2020, and this will mean that Crown has officially settled in Sydney as well.
The Star joined forces with one of the biggest conglomerates from China called Chow Tai Fook. Together, they will see the construction of a hotel that will have 61-story and six stars. It will be joined to the exciting casino that is held by the Star, and it will have more than 220 hotel rooms and 200 apartments. Furthermore, the hotel will feature a restaurant, a spa, two gyms, a public restaurant, and a wellness center. It will be a Ritz-Carlton brand hotel which already means that some guests will be attracted simply due to the huge name that Ritz-Carlton is.
However, Hotel is just one step into the expansion project. Some other things that are also planned with the expansion are a pool area with a great view of the harbour, food and beverage outlets, and a great number of other amenities. According to The Star Entertainment, all of these things will be included within the Star complex with no intention to expand beyond it. The Ritz-Carlton hotel is being designed by FJMT, and the main aim is to provide great competition to the hotel that Crown plans to open in Sydney.
This will also be a big return of Ritz-Carlton hotel to Sydney as they had two hotels in the 90’s but both of them were closed down and rebranded as InterContinental Double Bay and Sir Stamford at Circular Quay. The future of the casinos in Sydney is certainly bright, and these new additions will take the whole experience to the new level.
