Local officials as well as state leaders will have to approve the hotel plans before Harrah’s can begin construction on the 24-story hotel. The hotel is part of plans recently pitched by Harrah’s to upgrade their facilities, spending as much as $350 million to do so.

On top of the guest accommodations, the new hotel will also feature an event facility that will be 20,000 square feet in size as well as a gym and spa. A rooftop swimming pool with be added with bar service. Harrah’s also plans on upgrading their existing facilities to include new options at the casino site. If the plan is given approval, new entertainment facilities, dining and beverage options will be added.

Harrah’s plans on adding a new Fillmore Theater music venue plus improve the exterior with new landscaping and digital marquees. When completed, the casino property will have a new look and be able to provide even more to guests.

Preliminary estimates have show that the new hotel and upgrades to the Harrah’s New Orleans property could bring in as much as $13 million in payments to the state, including $1 million gaming taxes. As many as 600 temporary jobs should be created during the construction phase and once complete, as many as 500 permanent full-time positions should be available.

Harrah’s has stated that the project is in its early stages, so more details should be released later on this year.
