The island of Cyprus has been pretty inviting to tourists lately. It features excellent Mediterranean cuisine, bright blue seas, beautiful beaches, lovely people, and great casinos and other entertainment venues. However, one of the casinos called Ayia Napa, which has recently opened its doors, was a subject of a bomb hoax.
The satellite casino, which was built as part of the casino resort that is planned in Cyprus, has been working for a little over a month. It immediately ran into a problem which was, luckily, solved pretty quickly.
Someone notified the officials that there was a bomb in the casino, and everyone had to be evacuated. The individual who did this is still not known to the authorities, but it is suspected that it is either a failed gambler or a person who was not hired by the casino. The bomb threat happened last weekend, but things are looking good at the moment.
Ayia Napa Bomb Hoax
At 12:45 am on Sunday morning, the police came to the casino after they received a call about a potential bomb threat in the facility. They immediately started evacuating the venue and succeeded in that operation rather quickly.
What followed was a thorough search of the casino for a bomb, but it seems that the police were unable to find anything, concluding that the phone call was a fake one. People were then allowed to return to the casino, and the venue continued working as usual.
The real reason for such a call is still unknown. Namely, these types of calls are usually made to make some sort of statement. However, the unknown caller could have just been drunk or bored and wanted to play dangerous games.
Maybe that person was someone who is in the business, testing the venue’s ability to react to such situations.
Casinos in Cyprus
The temporary casino in Limassol, as well as its three satellite casinos that are scattered all over the island, are doing pretty well; having received more than a million patrons. The venues are speeding up and show no signs of fatigue.
They are definitely going to attract more tourists to the island, and boost the economy of this island-nations that already has an outstanding tourist potential.
The temporary casino, as well as the three satellite casinos, are all Melco’s introduction to a project dubbed City of Dreams Mediterranean, which is a great casino resort located on Cyprus.
The facility is expected to open its doors to visitors sometime in 2020, but the date is not definitive as there have been some postponements recently.
The bomb threat also happened at the Silver Reef Casino in Washington State recently, when an employee called the casino and told them that a bomb had been planted.
The entire casino was evacuated, and the employee managed to walk away with a significant amount of money. However, he was caught soon after that.
This would be more difficult to pull off in Cyprus as the country is an island, so it would be difficult to get away with such a robbery.
